You know, Saudi, the place famous for its oil money, has gone ahead and started building a city they call 'Neom' right there in their own backyard. The plan for Neom looks pretty cool, I gotta admit. I mean, we're talking about some amazing stuff you wouldn't expect in the Saudi desert - like beautiful gardens, a sparkling ocean, and cool weather thanks to all those air conditioners.
But, here's the thing, even though they're building Neom and it looks great on paper, I'm kinda worried about what's gonna happen without some concrete projects. I mean, who's gonna live there? only a few locals could afford the cost of living in Neom. It's not like everyone in Saudi is living it up with oil money - that's mostly for the government. The regular folks just get some help from the government.
The bigger issue is that many locals haven't really known what it's like to work hard like they do in developing countries. They found oil in their backyard not long after Saudi was founded. So, they've never really had to struggle, and they've always had support from government thanks to oil money. They're not exactly desperate to change that.
So, can those less well-off locals who don't have fancy skills just pack up and move to Neom? I serioulsy doubt it.
